Contractor website FAQ

Straight answers to real questions.

No marketing fluff. Questions contractors actually ask about the $999 website build, answered honestly.

Category 01

Pricing and payment

How much does this really cost, all-in?

The website itself is $999 one-time. If you want hosting with me it's $29 per month. Domain registration is $25 per year if you don't have one yet. That's it for the basic package.

First year all-in if you need everything: $999 (site) + $348 (hosting, 12 months) + $25 (domain) = $1,372. Year 2 and beyond: $373 per year if you stay on hosting with me.

Why do I pay everything upfront?

Because the build is only 5 days. Collecting 50% upfront and 50% at launch adds invoicing, payment reminders, and collection headaches to a very short project. It would either slow me down or force me to raise the price.

Full upfront payment keeps the price at $999 and the timeline fast. If you're uncomfortable with that, I'm probably not the right fit for you.

What add-ons are available and what do they cost?

Add-ons are listed with fixed prices, no estimates or proposals:

  • Extra page: $199 per page (service pages, location pages, team bios, portfolios)
  • Logo design: $249 flat (3 concepts, 2 revision rounds, all file formats)
  • Blog setup: $149 (blog module configured, styled, ready to publish)
  • Local SEO Starter: $299 (Google Business Profile optimization, local schema, directory submissions)
  • Rush 72-hour delivery: $299 (cuts build from 5 days to 3)
  • Content writing: $349 flat (professional copy for all 5 base pages)
  • Additional revision round: $75 each (beyond the 1 included)

Pick your add-ons at checkout and they're bundled into the base order. All add-ons are delivered inside the same 5-day build window (or 3 days with Rush).

See the full add-ons page for more detail on each.

What if I need more than 5 pages?

You can add up to 5 extra pages as add-ons at $199 each. That covers service pages, location pages, team bios, or project portfolios beyond the base 5.

If you need more than 5 extras (so a site with 11+ total pages), that's usually a larger multi-service or multi-location build where custom structure and strategy matter more than productized templates. That's where Primate Web FX takes over. Different scope, different approach, quoted per project.

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa and Mastercard through Square, or Interac e-Transfer for Canadian clients who prefer that. No PayPal, no crypto, no wire transfers.

Card payment is fastest because Square processes immediately and triggers your intake form automatically. Interac e-Transfer typically takes a few hours to clear; the intake form is sent once I confirm receipt.

Do you do refunds?

Before build starts: full refund, no questions asked. Once build has begun: no refunds, because the work is already being done. That's the policy. Simple.

"Build starts" means the day I begin customizing your template, which is typically the day after I receive your completed intake form.

Do I pay tax on top of $999?

If you're in Canada, yes. GST/HST is added at checkout based on your province. Most provinces: 5% GST ($49.95) for a total of $1,048.95. Ontario: 13% HST. Atlantic provinces: 15% HST.

If you're outside Canada (US, Caribbean, or other supported countries), no Canadian tax applies. Your checkout total is $999 flat, though your bank may charge a small foreign transaction or currency conversion fee on their end.

The build process

How long does it actually take?

5 business days from the moment your content is complete and in my hands. Not 5 days from payment. Most projects take 7 to 10 calendar days total because content collection takes a few days.

If you need it faster, the Rush 72-hour delivery add-on ($299) cuts the build window to 3 business days. Intake must be complete at order time for Rush.

What happens if I'm slow getting you my content?

The project pauses. I can't build a site without your business info, photos, and service list. If content isn't complete within 14 days of payment, your project goes to the back of the queue until content is ready.

Bottom line: block out 30 minutes to fill the intake form right after you pay. The faster your content is in, the faster you launch.

How does the revision round work?

After the preview link goes out, you have 5 business days to send ONE consolidated email with all your changes. Not 3 emails over 3 days. One email, everything you want changed.

I make the changes, send you the final preview, then launch. If you want additional revision rounds beyond the 1 included, they're $75 each.

Do I get to see the design before it goes live?

Yes. After the initial build I send you a preview link on a staging URL. You review, request changes if needed, approve, and then it goes live.

What if you get sick or go on vacation mid-project?

If I know in advance I'll be unavailable, I don't accept new orders during that window. You'll see a notice on the Start page or get an email reply explaining when the next build slot opens.

If something unexpected happens mid-project (emergency, illness), I'll email you within 24 hours with a revised timeline. Your project timeline pauses, not cancels. No refund is needed because the work still gets delivered, just later than planned.

Because it's just me, I can't hand off to a team. That's part of why the price is $999 and the scope is fixed. If you need guaranteed delivery windows with team backup, my premium agency Primate Web FX handles projects like that.

What kind of guarantee do you offer?

For 30 days after launch, if anything I built doesn't work the way I described, I fix it free. Broken form, misaligned layout, typo I made, wrong link, missing image. That's on me.

After 30 days, fixes for my errors are still free (I stand behind my work), but changes, updates, new features, and things caused by factors outside my control (plugin updates, your hosting provider, WordPress updates) are either covered by the Hosting & Care Plan or billed as support.

I don't guarantee business outcomes. I can't promise your site will generate leads, rank on Google, or make you money. No reputable web designer can promise that. Too many factors are outside my control.

Templates and customization

Are these just off-the-shelf WordPress templates?

No. They're 6 proven layouts I've designed based on 27 years of contractor website work. They're built in WordPress (so you own everything and can edit it later) but they're not drag-and-drop templates you'd buy on ThemeForest.

Can I change colors to match my brand?

Yes. Every template has a palette that can be customized to your brand colors. You give me your brand colors at intake (or tell me what vibe you want) and I match the template to you.

What if I don't like any of the 6 templates?

Then this probably isn't the right service for you. The whole reason it's $999 is the fixed-template approach. If you need a custom design from scratch, my premium agency Primate Web FX handles custom builds for contractors ready for that level of investment.

Can you build an e-commerce or booking site?

Not as part of the $999 package. E-commerce (selling products online with a cart and checkout) and booking systems (online appointment scheduling with calendar integration) are more involved builds that need different plugins, different templates, and more setup time.

If you need those, that's where Primate Web FX comes in. Or you can launch with the $999 package first and add these later once you've confirmed you actually need them. Most contractors don't.

After launch

Do I own the website?

Yes, 100%. You own the domain, the WordPress install, every file, every image. If you ever want to move to different hosting or hire a different developer, I hand everything over clean.

What plugins does the site use, and who owns the licenses?

The site runs on WordPress (which you own fully) plus these commercial plugins:

  • Beaver Builder (page builder)
  • Beaver Themer (header and footer builder)
  • PowerPack for Beaver Builder (extra design modules)
  • Fluent Forms Pro (contact and intake forms)

The license keys for these plugins are mine. I install them on your site as part of the Hosting & Care Plan ($29/month). That saves you roughly $300/year you'd otherwise pay to license them yourself.

If you cancel the Hosting & Care Plan, you have 30 days to either buy your own licenses and transfer them, or accept that the plugins will continue to work without updates. The site doesn't break if licenses expire, it just stops getting new features and security patches. I'll help you transfer at no charge if you ever want to move off.

Full details are in the Terms of Service, Section 6.

What if something breaks after launch?

If it's something I did wrong within 30 days of launch, I fix it free. After that, or if it's something outside my control (a plugin update, your hosting going down, you deleting a page by accident), it's either covered by the Hosting & Care Plan or billed as a support request.

Can I update the site myself?

Yes. I deliver a written handoff document showing you how to update your phone number, business hours, photos, and text content. If you can use Facebook, you can update your site.

For bigger structural changes (adding new sections, major redesigns), you'll want me or another developer.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance?

Yes. The annual tune-up ($199 per year) covers plugin updates, security checks, and any minor fixes. The Hosting & Care Plan ($29 per month) includes daily backups, plugin licenses, ongoing security updates, and up to 30 minutes per month of minor content updates.

Bigger changes, new pages, SEO work, and marketing services are billed separately.

Does the site track visitors? What analytics are installed?

I install Google Analytics on every site by default. It collects anonymous data about visitors: which pages they view, how long they stay, where they came from (search engine, social media, direct link). You get access to the data so you can see what's working.

No advertising pixels, no retargeting scripts, no third-party trackers installed unless you specifically ask for them. If you want Meta Pixel, Google Ads conversion tracking, or similar for ad campaigns, I can add those (tell me at intake or anytime later).

All tracking is disclosed in the Privacy Policy your site needs. I'll help draft that at launch.

Is the site GDPR compliant?

The base build ships with a Privacy Policy template, HTTPS enabled, and no invasive tracking beyond basic Google Analytics. That covers the essentials for Canadian PIPEDA and most US state privacy laws.

Full GDPR compliance (for EU visitors specifically) needs a cookie consent banner, possibly IP anonymization in Analytics, and a proper data processing agreement. If you're targeting European customers, tell me at intake and I'll add a cookie consent plugin and configure it.

If you're only serving local Canadian, US, or Caribbean customers, you probably don't need full GDPR setup. The default build is fine.

Can I move the site to another host later?

Yes. WordPress sites are fully portable. If you ever want to move off my hosting, I export the complete site (database, files, images) and you can host it anywhere that supports WordPress (Bluehost, WP Engine, Kinsta, your own server).

Migration assistance is free during the first 90 days after launch. After that, it's handled case by case depending on how much transfer work is involved. Either way, you're never locked in. That's part of the deal.

About the service

Who builds the site?

I do. Roy, the same guy running Primate Web FX since 1998. No subcontractors, no offshore handoff, no agency middle layer. You work with me directly.

Where are you based?

I'm based in Belize. Clients are across Canada, the US, the Caribbean, and select international markets. Everything is remote. I've built hundreds of contractor websites without ever meeting a client in person and it's never been an issue.

Which countries do you serve?

The $999 package is available to contractors in:

  • Canada (all provinces)
  • United States (all states)
  • Caribbean (Belize, Jamaica, Bahamas, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, and most other English-speaking islands)
  • Brazil
  • Iceland
  • New Zealand

Checkout is in Canadian dollars (CAD). If you're outside Canada, your bank handles the conversion at checkout, and approximate USD equivalent for $999 CAD is around $730 USD (rates change daily).

Content must be delivered in English. If you're in a country not listed above, reach out through the Start form. My premium agency Primate Web FX handles custom international projects outside of this list.

Can I see examples of your work?

My main portfolio lives at primatewebfx.com/our-work. Those are premium builds, not $999 starter builds, but the template structure and contractor expertise you see there is what powers this service.

For Contractor Site Design specifically, the Templates page shows you exactly what your site will look like.

Do you do SEO, Google Ads, or other marketing?

Basic on-page SEO (titles, meta descriptions, H1s, alt text) is included in the $999 package. For local SEO setup (Google Business Profile optimization, local schema, directory submissions), the Local SEO Starter add-on is $299.

Ongoing marketing (Google Ads management, content marketing, ranking campaigns) is handled through Primate Web FX, where those services are built around strategy rather than fixed packages.
